What we can learn from the late Karl Lagerfeld

The world lost one of its’ most influential designers of our times on Tuesday.  No matter how much you follow design or fashion,  Karl Lagerfeld probably influenced your life in some way.  Even though Chanel’s Grand Palais fashion shows are out of this world, and far from our every day lives, the inspiration that these bring often seep in to designs we see on the high street. In a watered down way of course but never the less, it’s there and fashion is about change. He wasn’t always so kind it seems, and said some crazy things from time to time, but he also said some things that can bring some wisdom to us in our every day lives. So here are 7 of our favourite Karl Lagerfeld quotes.

“Don’t sacrifice yourself too much, because if you sacrifice too much there’s nothing else you can give and nobody will care for you.”

“Whatever it is, good or bad, it influences fashion. You can see that in fashion quicker than in any other thing going on. Fashion is something that reflects our lives and times with the shortest release because, cars, design, and architecture take years to realise.”

“A respectable appearance is sufficient to make people more interested in your soul.“

“I’ve been lucky. I didn’t finish school. I learned nothing. It is all improvisation. And yet I am not doing badly.”

“We created a product nobody needs, but people want. If you need an ugly old car, it can wait, but if you want a new fashion item, it cannot wait.”

“I am a fashion person, and fashion is not only about clothes—it’s about all kinds of change.”-

“I am very much down to Earth. Just not this earth. And maybe that’s what it takes to create what he did?

There’s a great documentary series on Netflix called “7 Days Out” where they follow big events 7 days before they go live, Chanel’s fashion show being one of them. It’s a really great view so if you have the time watch it:)

We hope you enjoyed this.
